Three Ways to Commission a Furniture Piece

Here are common ways to commission a custom piece. Every project is unique and may differ. Share your vision, and we’ll work with you to bring it to life, even if it doesn’t fit these examples.

  • 1. Refinish a piece you own

    —————————

The dresser from your grandmother's house. The buffet you've moved through four homes. Send us photos and we'll tell you honestly what it needs.

  • 2. Choose from our inventory

    —————————

We keep vintage pieces on hand for custom work: solid, well-built furniture waiting for the right finish and home.

  • 3. Let us source a piece

    —————————

Tell us what you're looking for and what it needs to fit. We'll go find it.

Pieces We Work On

We work on solid wood and wood-veneer furniture, including:

  • Dressers & chests of drawers, our most common commission

  • Buffets & sideboards

  • China cabinets & hutches

  • Nightstands & end tables

  • Desks & secretaries

  • Vanities, including vintage furniture pieces you envision converting into a bathroom vanity

  • Armoires & wardrobes

  • Dining tables & chairs

  • Bookcases & shelving

How It Works

  • 1. Tell Us About Your Piece

    —————————

Share a few photos, provide the dimensions, and tell us what you have in mind. We’ll offer honest feedback about the piece, its condition and potential, and what we think makes sense.

With enough information, we can also provide an initial estimate and anticipated timeline so you can decide whether you’d like to move forward. Because photos can only tell us so much, we’ll confirm the scope of work once we’re able to see the piece in person.

  • 2. Design It Together

    —————————

Once you’ve decided to move forward and the piece is in our shop, we’ll collaborate on the vision—considering style, finish, color, hardware, function, the character of the piece itself, and what you envision for it.

  • 3. Give It a Better Story

    —————————

Then we bring the vision to life. You can be as involved as you’d like, with updates, recommendations, and opportunities to weigh in on design decisions along the way.

If the scope of work changes or we uncover something unexpected that may affect your estimate, we’ll talk with you before moving forward. Once your piece is finished, we’ll coordinate pickup or delivery—ready for its next chapter in your home.
